I'm using Lua 5.0.2 compiled for x86_64 Debian Linux. I've not
seen any problems yet.

If you're using a "work" release you might want to make sure it has
the latest 64-bit cleanups. for example see this message about
5.1-work2:

  http://lua-users.org/lists/lua-l/2004-11/msg00032.html

I've used 5.1-work3 on Itanium2 Red Hat Linux and it seemed to work
fine.

You would someone be still using a work release? Lua 5.1 (final) has been
out since February. --lhf

I'm running Lua 5.1 on a twin-xeon box (4 cores!) under FC4/64 SMP with no
problems so far.
